Gandhinagar is the capital of the state of Gujarat in Western India, lies on the west bank of the Sabarmati river about 32 km from Ahmedabad. The city is named after the Father of the Nation, “Mahatma Gandhi”.

It is a major center of learning in Gujarat. Many educational institutes have sprung up in the city, which provide knowledge in different fields like science, medicine and engineering. It is also famous for “Akshardham Temple”.

 

Akshardham Temple

Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar is one of the largest and most prominent temples in the entire state of Gujarat. Located in Gandhinagar city, the famous Akshardham temple is a place, which consists of a number of things under one roof like art, education, architecture, exhibitions and research. It is truly an architectural masterpiece.
 
Established in the year 1992, the Akshardham temple was built in the dedication of Lord Swaminarayan. The credit for laying the foundation of the famous Akshardham temple at Gandhinahar goes to the BochasanwasiAkshar-PurushottamSwaminarayanSanstha (BAPS). The highlights of the temple consist of the seven feet long idol of Lord Swaminarayan, the chief deity at the Akshardham temple.

Adalaj Step Well

Adalaj is a small village, situated at a distance of 18 km to the north of Ahmedabad. Vav means a step well. AdalajVav was built by Queen Rudabai, in 1499 AD. A beautifully chiseled step well, AdalajVav is counted amongst the finest architectural structures of Gujarat.
 
The unique feature of AdalajVav is that apart from conserving water for drinking purposes, it also serves as a cooling chamber in the hot summer months. The steps of the well were used by the travelers and caravans passing from the area, on the due course of their trade routes.
 
With time, the well has become a memorial of the love of the queen for her husband. One can still see water in the well which is a living example of spirit of the queen.
 
The step well is open on all the days and to enjoy the interesting play of light on the interiors of the step well it is advisable to plan your visit in such a way that when the sun is up you are underground in the step well.

Dada Bhagwan Mandir

Famous Trimurti of the three Hindu Gods is Brahmā, Vishnu and Shiva (left to right) at Adalaj Ahmedabad.  The majestic gold plated crown of Shree Simandhar Swami weighs 65 kg’s and the 6 feet high chatra weighs 150 kg’s. The sanctum of Shivji and Krishna Bhagwan has similar grandeur.
 
The main hall of the Dada BhagwanMandir Ahmedabad is 10000sq ft and the podium is 20000 sq ft. Structure of Trimandir 108 feet high shikhar on the Sanctum of Shree Simandhar Swami comprises of 70 smaller shikhars.  The building design also features a museum and mini-theatre showcasing the life events of GnaniPurush Dada Bhagwan along with the emergence of AkramVignan. Various social and charity activities are carried on from the campus here.

Indroda Nature Park

Indroda Dinosaur and Fossil Park is a precious treasure spread over an area of about 400 hectares on either bank of Sabarmati river in Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat. It is considered to be the second largest hatchery of dinosaur eggs in the world. Regarded as India’s Jurrasic Park, it is run by the Gujarat Ecological Education and Research Foundation (GEER), and is the only dinosaur museum in the country. The park consists of a zoo, massive skeletons of sea mammals like the blue whale, as well as a vast botanical garden, amphitheatre, interpretation center and camping facilities. It also has a Wilderness Park which is home to innumerable species of birds, reptiles, hundreds of nilgais, langurs and peafowls in its vast forest.

Amarnath Dham

Amarnath Dham is situated on a eye-catching panorama of Sabarmati river-bank at Amarapur village in Gandhinagar. Amarnath Dham is divine and world’s first ‘CAVE-TEMPLE’. There is a 5 feet high ‘shiv-ling’ (ICE-LINGAM) of pure ice. The pious icelingan of Amarnath Dham is available for worship through out the year.
