Navsari district is located in the south eastern part of Gujarat state in the coastal lowland along Purna river. The district has 5 talukas of which Gandevi and Chikhli are major talukas. The district abounds in sugarcane fields, chikoo plantations, and mango trees.
Navsari is known for its floriculture activities and sugar business. The focus sectors of the district are agro and food processing industries, textiles, drugs and pharmaceuticals, mineral related industries and marine based industries. Famous historical places both Dandi and Vansda National Park are located in Navsari.
The pioneer of the Indian steel industry and the founder of the House of Tatas, Mr.Jamshedji Tata was born in Navsari. The house where he was born is well preserved and recommended for a visit. Unai Hot Springs, Dandi Beach, Somnath Mahadev Temple, Shri Chintamani Parshvanath, Vansda National Park are some of the famous places in the city.
Dandi Beach
The beach adjacent to the village of Dandi. Made famous during the historic Salt March undertaken by Mahatma Gandhi and his followers in 1930, which earnestly began the Satyagraha movement, which espoused non-violent resistance as a means to achieve a goal. Eventually led to freedom from British rule. The March began at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad and culminated at Dandi Beach, where Gandhi and his followers made salt illegally (according to British law, as salt was taxed at the time). The view of sun set is really captivating from this beach.
Dargah of Sayed Saadat
Hazrat Syed Noor Muhammad (RA) came to India from Iran (Rai). During that time King Siddhraj Jaysingh was under power. Hazrat is well known as “Saiyadus-sadat” as well as “Satgor-Noor-Muhammad”. Sayyid (Saiyed) Noordin Noor Muhammad , Pir Satgur Noor (light of the true master), Sayyid (Saiyed) Saadat. It is stated in ‘Tawarikh-e-Pir’ that Sayyid Noor Muhammad (Satgur Noor) famous Sayyid Saadat, resting at Navsari, arrived in the period of king Sidhraj Jaysingh. So in the name of him a dargah was constructed.
Kilad Nature Education Campsite
This education center is in the south east part of the park along the Ambika river. It is located at the Dang Forest Division on the way to the Waghai Botanical Garden. It offers visitors a unique and exciting opportunity to stay in the forest and make friends with it. After an evening campfire under the stars you can spend the night at the center. In the morning you can hire a guide (Rs. 50) to take you through the forest and tell you the names of trees and their uses, show you leopard tracks, how to recognize birds by their song, and other such secrets. There is a fantastic 3-story tree house made of bamboo which is perfect for early morning birdwatching. Entry to the center is free.
Padamdungari Eco Campsite
Padamdungari is a campsite located at about 30 km from Vyara town, and 8 km from Unai village. It is situated amongst the Sahyadri ranges, by the river Ambica. Treks, trails, winding up and down the hillocks, sunset activity, observation towers, relaxing woodlands, and medicinal groves are proposed attractions when you visit Padamdungari. The scenic site has deep, dense, multi-storied forests, genetic diversity, rocky, undulating, and enriched landscapes. The fauna consists of big cats, lesser canines, herbivores, birds, reptiles, aquatic animals.
The campsite consists of Tourist huts, a Reception cum interpretation centre, other Facilities / utilities, nature trails, good approach roads and capacity buildings for local people. A visit to nearby religious places like Chand-surya, Unai Hot Springs and Ghusmaai temples, Waghai botanical gardens, timber workshop, Vansda National Park and Shabri Dham is also possible. Activities like tubing, rafting, floating etc. on river Ambika can also be planned.
Shri Chintamani Parshvanath
It is the famous Jain pilgrimage in the district of 23rd Lord(tirthankar) Of Jains – Parshvanath. Many pilgrims go there regularly for worshiping God.
Somnath Mahadev Temple
It is situated in Billimora taluka of the district. It is a temple of Lord Mahadev and is the tallest (108 feet) Mahadev temple in south Gujarat.
Udvada Atash-Behram Fire Temple
A fire temple in Zoroastrianism is the place of worship for Zoroastrians. Although Zoroastrians revere fire in any form, the temple fire is not literally for the reverence of fire. In the Zoroastrian religion, fire, together with clean water, is an agent of ritual purity. There are numerous eternally burning Zoroastrian fires today, with the exception of the ‘Fire of Warharan’, none of them are more than 250 years old.
